In this must-watch episode of Power Hour, host Eugene Shatsman sits down with Jim McGrann, former CEO of VSP Vision and current CEO of Advancing Eyecare, to address the pressing concerns of eye care professionals (ECPs) and explore the future of optometry in an AI-driven world. As one of the most influential figures in the industry, Jim offers a unique perspective on VSP’s role in the evolving landscape of vision care and shares insights on how practices can thrive despite the challenges posed by managed care.

Jim openly discusses the concerns ECPs have about VSP and offers candid responses on the steps the company took – and didn’t take – during his leadership. This is an unfiltered conversation about the complexities of managed vision care, the frustrations many practices feel, and how the industry can address these challenges moving forward. Beyond that, Jim shares exciting developments at Advancing Eyecare, including innovations in AI, the impact of the MARCOLOMBART merger, and how technology is reshaping patient care.

A major focus of the conversation is how AI is revolutionizing optometry. Jim emphasizes that AI isn’t about replacing optometrists but enhancing their ability to deliver better care, faster. Tools like automated refraction systems and diagnostic devices enable practices to work more efficiently, improving patient outcomes and practice profitability. He also touches on broader industry trends like the expansion of cash-based services – myopia management and dry eye treatments – that are becoming crucial for practice growth.

Whether you’re curious about the future of AI in optometry, concerned about the role of managed vision care, or interested in boosting your practice’s success, this episode offers deep insights from one of the industry’s most experienced leaders.
